Domestic Violence
18 December 2025Toine Korthout
Domestic violence is a critically under-diagnosed issue that exists within the patient population of every healthcare practitioner. It affects individuals across all genders, ages, and social strata—from women, men, and children to the elderly. Yet, the majority of cases remain hidden and unreported.
This impactful one-day seminar—previously accredited by the Dutch Medical Association (KNMG)—provides essential knowledge for any healthcare professional.
The course begins with an introduction to the definitions and prevalence of domestic violence, including honour-based violence and femicide. You will learn to differentiate between accidental and non-accidental lesions and identify the specific details that make an injury suspect.
Through interactive discussion, we will explore practical steps and potential solutions when domestic violence is suspected. Furthermore, the seminar will outline the mandatory Dutch reporting protocols and procedures that all healthcare professionals in the Netherlands—including those in complementary medicine—must follow, and provide guidance on how to refer clients to the appropriate support services.
Join us to gain the confidence and skills to view patient injuries through a different lens and play a vital role in breaking the cycle of abuse.
Key topics include:
• Definitions and incidence of domestic violence
• Recognising signs of non-accidental injury
• Mandatory protocols and procedures for Dutch healthcare providers
• Interactive workshops on intervention and referral
