In the busy setting of an acupuncture practice, a TCM practitioner can at times use ready-made Chinese herbal medicines (patent formulas) to enhance and consolidate the therapeutic effects of acupuncture, or to compensate for acupuncture’s limitations so as to treat a patient’s condition more comprehensively.

In this two-day lecture, Dr. Yang will introduce 25 traditional and modern Chinese patent medicines that can be used either individually or in pairs to treat the most common conditions encountered in an acupuncture practice.
When presenting each formula, Dr. Yang will not only explain its actions and primary indications, but will place greater emphasis on the formula’s distinctive features and strengths, its modern clinical indications, speed of action, contraindications, precautions for use, dosage, and how to design and adjust treatment courses.

This lecture is intended for TCM practitioners who have systematically studied single herbal and herbal formulas and who have a certain level of clinical experience. Dr. Yang will omit basic knowledge of herbs and formulas, and proceed directly to their clinical application.
In addition, Chinese patent medicines are convenient to use and are suitable for short-, medium-, and long-term treatment courses. However, they are best suited for clearly defined and stable syndromes. When the syndrome changes quickly or patient’s condition is unstable, selecting herbs to compose an individualized herbal prescription is more appropriate.
