Muchin was founded by Chief Physician Shaomin Xue, Dr. Anneleen Six and Anouk Lagae from a shared vision: to make the rich tradition of Chinese herbal medicine more accessible, practical and clinically applicable for practitioners working in a modern Western healthcare context.

Over many years of teaching and clinical practice, both TCM Dr. Shaomin Xue and Dr. Anneleen Six observed that students and practitioners often wish to incorporate Chinese herbal medicine into their practice, yet frequently encounter barriers due to the complexity of traditional formulations, the vast medical materials and the practical challenges of prescribing herbs.

The Muchin Herbal Masterblends were developed as a bridge between classical Chinese herbal medicine and modern clinical practice. Each formula is rooted in traditional prescriptions and pattern differentiation, while being adapted to support common presentations encountered in Western practice.

This educational program offers practitioners a structured and clinically oriented introduction to the use of herbal formulas within TCM. The emphasis remains firmly on TCM theory, pattern identification, clinical reasoning and formula differentiation.

A basic understanding of Traditional Chinese Medicine is recommended. Prior education in Chinese herbal medicine is not required.

Learning Objectives

Participants will learn how to:

  • Understand the theoretical foundations behind the Herbal Masterblends.
  • Recognize the classical formulas from which the blends originate.
  • Apply TCM pattern differentiation in the selection of appropriate formulas.
  • Differentiate between commonly overlapping clinical presentations.
  • Interpret symptom patterns in relation to tongue and pulse findings.
  • Understand how formulas may be combined within a broader treatment strategy.
  • Integrate herbal support into clinical practice in a structured and safe manner.

The course aims not only to teach the use of specific formulas, but also to deepen the practitioner’s understanding of Chinese herbal medicine as a whole.

Course Content

The program begins with an introduction to the origins of Muchin and the clinical reasoning that led to the development of the Herbal Masterblends.
Students receive insight into:

  • The role of prevention and constitutional support within Traditional Chinese Medicine.
  • The adaptation of classical formulas for Western populations.
  • Quality control, sourcing, research and development processes.
  • Regulatory frameworks and safety considerations within Europe.

A central part of the course consists of a detailed discussion of all Herbal Masterblends.
Each formula is explored through dedicated profile sheets containing:

  • Clinical symptoms and presentations.
  • TCM pattern identification.
  • Pulse and tongue characteristics.
  • Herbal composition and ingredient rationale.
  • Traditional formula lineage.
  • Clinical applications.
  • Contraindications and conditions of use.
  • Practical prescribing considerations.
  • Case study by using MuChin master blends

Considerable attention is given to pattern differentiation and clinical reasoning. Through practical examples and case discussions, participants learn how to distinguish between similar presentations and select the most appropriate formula.
The course further explores:

  • Relationships between formulas.
  • Frequently used formula combinations.
  • Modification principles derived from classical herbal medicine.
  • Integration of herbal formulas with acupuncture, lifestyle interventions and other therapeutic approaches.

All Herbal Masterblends are additionally presented within a structured overview table, allowing practitioners to quickly identify appropriate formulas according to key diagnostic parameters and symptom clusters.

Educational Approach

The teaching style combines classical TCM theory with extensive clinical experience.

Chief Physician Shaomin Xue and Dr. Anneleen Six have been teaching for many years and bring together Eastern and Western perspectives on patient care. Their educational approach emphasizes practical application, pattern recognition and clinical confidence.

The goal is not simply to learn formulas, but to strengthen the practitioner’s ability to think through cases from a traditional Chinese medical perspective and apply herbal medicine with greater clarity and precision.

Students are encouraged to actively engage with case material, discuss diagnostic reasoning and deepen their understanding of formula selection in real-world clinical settings.

Quality and Safety

The Muchin Herbal Masterblends are produced according to rigorous quality standards.

All raw materials undergo extensive testing for identity, purity, safety and active constituents. Herbs are sourced from their traditional regions of origin whenever possible and are selected according to strict quality criteria. The formulas are manufactured without unnecessary fillers or binding agents and are designed to preserve the integrity of the herbal ingredients.

In Belgium, all Herbal Masterblends have been notified and approved through the Federal Agency for the Safety of the Food Chain (FASFC/FAVV), providing an additional layer of regulatory oversight and quality assurance.
