While Western medicine is based on scientific research, Chinese medicine trusts for centuries in empirical results. PhD student Fu at the Leiden Academic Centre for Drug Research devoted her research to combine these two different approaches. Her goal was to find predictors for the response on drugs in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA). “Western and Chinese medicine have different perspectives on the diagnosis, so they can complement each other,” says Fu.
